Un equipo de búsqueda y rescate de las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel fue recibido con ovaciones, aplausos y gritos de “gracias” de gente en las calles de la Ciudad de México. El equipo aterrizó el 21 de septiembre, que coincidió con Rosh Hashana, el Año Nuevo judío, después de un viaje de 18 horas desde Israel para prestar ayuda tras varios sismos que causaron la muerte de cientos de personas.
Su regreso está planeado para el próximo viernes.

En el equipo, formado por 70 hombres y mujeres, hay 25 ingenieros que están analizando el daño y ofreciendo asistencia en los lugares afectados. Está bajo el mando del coronel Dudi Mizrahi.
“Las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel y el Estado de Israel continuarán ofreciendo apoyo en cualquier lugar del mundo donde se necesiten nuestra experiencia y capacidades,” dijo el teniente coronel Jonathan Conricus, vocero de la entidad.

My dilemma as a spokesperson was always how much to push the activity into the media and on social media. The cynics will always call this kind of activity whitewashing, but I always felt that the importance of pushing the story of little Israel flying thousands of miles away to help people is a huge story. We've been doing it since 1953, with tens of missions across the globe. So yes, what is needed is a combined effort with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IDF, real-time footage capabilities, a flow of information to keep up with the news cycle and people that can speak with the journalists covering the disaster. In the end, it is videos like this that makes it worth it. Israelis walking in Mexico City being applauded. If Israel is needed, we will be there. Shana Tova
